Hitchhiking Gif

From: Tom Cooch (tcooch@sover.net) | Date: 2000-08-11 15:06:37 UTC
I'd like to put up a list of "Traveling" letterboxes, aka Parasite
Boxes. I promised Sarah to do this back in May, and still haven't
gotten to it.

I'd thought originally that a little icon of Sarah's Y2K bug might be
a good one. But there's been some concern about the risk to
letterboxers in the east of Lyme Tick Disease. So maybe 'Traveler' is
a better descriptor for us to use?

Maybe the image of a hitchhiking thumb would be an icon we could use.
What do people think? Could anyone send me a little gif file I could
use for this?

Tom

I always thought of them as leach boxes but perhaps that is not the
most attactive image

Tom,

Having grown up in the shadow of Lyme, Ct. all my life
and the threat of "lyme" disease I feel no real
discomfort at calling these boxes "parasite"
boxes..... It describes them perfectly..... they
"infect" the "host" get "caught" by a new host and
then when that new host finds a more suitable "host"
it re-infects that. As for the Hitch hiking gif. I say
Go for it!

thanks
Chip

If were searching for a descriptive title for hitch-hiker boxes
How about
Limpet boxes.

like a limpet mine, a mine that is attached to the hull of a ship,
like a parasite or hitch-hiker.

It also is a very british word, giving a nod to those on the wrong side of
the atlantic.

And it conjours images of the incredible Mr. Limpet.
